Snore Appliance

Snoring occurs when the airway or passage through which we breathe becomes partially blocked or occluded. An example would be a tongue that falls back as we drift off into deeper sleep. As the diameter or size of the airway passage is shrinking, the net result is a muffled sound secondary to vibrations in the throat, or snoring. Most all sleep apnea sufferers snore in between bouts of apnea, or oxygen interruption. A sleep study should be done to determine the seriousness of your condition.

If you are not able to be compliant with the CPAP Machine (Continuous positive airway pressure) Vernon Hills Dental Center offers the following devices:

  • The Moses appliance, by Dr. Alan Moses, has a unique design that actually encourages the tongue to move forward into the opening you see below.
  • Thornton Adjustable Positioner (TAP®) oral appliance, which permits unlimited advancement of the lower jaw. The arches are custom fit to a patient's maxilla and mandible.
  • Myerson EMA (EMA ®) oral appliance, which is a mandibular advancement device. The EMA has many options for mandibular advancement with five strap lengths and four color coded tension options which your patients can easily change themselves.
